Lamb & Mutton's FAQ

  • Q What is the Difference between Lamb and Mutton?
A Lamb is baby sheep less than one year-old, which is tender and has less gamey-flavor/aroma. Mutton is grown sheep two year-old or older, often cooked as Jingisukan(Genghis Khan) which is marinated.
  • Q Any Tips of enjoying Lamb / Mutton?
A Melting Point of Sheep meat is high, the fat gets really tough when it is cold. So, if it is the part with a lot of fat, eat it while it's hot. If you want it cold, leg meat is the best since it doesn't have much fat.

Good to get delicious lamb!
Not many places in Japan where you can get decent lamb. We bbq'd it. No strong aftertaste or smell. Just great, flavorful lamb!
Ground Lamb Meat / Lamb Mince (500g)

Perfect for Shepherd's Pie
Being from the UK and growing up on staples like Shepherd's Pie I tend to miss lamb in Japan sometimes (it's more associated with Hokkaido in the north). The 500g lamb mince makes 2 Shepherd's Pies, and each of those, made in a larger Pyrex dish, serves 2 people for 2 days (depending on appetite), so 8 meals in total. You get quite a bit of fat when cooked but that's normal for lamb and it isn't an excessive amount. The smell when cooking is wonderful! Of course you can use beef instead for a Cottage Pie but that isn't really the same...

Awesome Lamb Roast
This lamb shoulder is the best slow roasted for at about 140 deg C for 2.5 hours. I usually turn it up a bit towards the end to its to get a bit of a crust on the outside. So good with some mint jelly (hey Meat Guy maybe you should be stocking Mint Jelly as well....?) Its so tender and tasty. Recommended!!
