Enjoy camping food in a different way than usual! Easy skillet recipes
Tips for using a skillet at camp!
A skillet is a small, thick frying pan. Because it is made of iron, it will rust if not stored properly. Here are some tips on how to use it so you can enjoy it for a long time.
Tip 1. Season it after you buy it.
Newly purchased skillets are coated with an anti-rust agent. To remove this, you need to season them. To season, wash them with a mild kitchen detergent, dry them, and then soak them in cooking oil. If you don't apply oil, it can cause food to burn and rust, so be sure to do so. Also, some products do not require seasoning. Check the instruction manual.
Point 2. Do not wash with detergent after use
After enjoying your skillet cooking, wait until it has completely cooled. Remove any dirt with kitchen paper, then rinse with water using a scrubbing brush. If you use detergent at this stage, it will remove the oil that has been absorbed into the skillet. Detergent is strictly prohibited on skillets! After rinsing the skillet with water, place it over the fire to dry. Once the skillet is completely dry, apply olive oil or similar with kitchen paper to soak in the new oil.
Tip 3. Wrap in newspaper for long-term storage
If you use a skillet regularly, you can store it by hanging it on a wall, but if you won't be using it for a long period of time, we recommend storing it wrapped in newspaper.
