DESCRIPTION

How about some camel? One hump or two? Many cultures eat camel as a delicacy on special occasions.
It's a red meat, similar to beef, but very rich, dark, and smooth. Recently Australia has been pushing it on everyone. Somebody decided in the early 1900s that it would be a good idea to let some wild camels lose in the Australian desert and they've been giving everyone headaches ever since. We use a tender cut of meat to make these cubes and it's also reputed to be healthier than other red meats because it's slightly leaner.
We cut this meat into cubes and they come with 10 long bamboo sticks so you can make skewers, kebabs, kabobs, whatever you call them, with a mix of vegetables if you like. These cubes are seasoned, vacuum packed and then immediately frozen.

SERVING SUGGESTION

Some say camel tastes like a cross between lamb and beef. These cubes are perfect for giving this kind of meat a try! Make your own skewers with vegetables and throw them on the grill or in the frying pan for a few minutes. The cubes are relatively small in size, so they won't need long. Don't overcook them!
You will be surprised how good this taste.

THAWING

The thawing time depends on many factors such as size, weight, packaging, and type of meat.

THAWING

Thaw frozen products slowly at low temperatures.
If thawing in ice water, the recommended time-length is about 4 hours per kg.
If thawing in the refrigerator, it takes about 24 hours per kg.
You can thaw it while in the package, but the package may open during thawing, causing leakage, so we recommend double-bagging or thawing on a tray or bowl.

Impressed

Let’s be honest, I just bought it the first time for the novelty. I was having a barbecue with friends and thought it might be fun and, fingers crossed, at least a bit tasty. Everyone but the pickiest eaters (who wouldn’t even try) really liked them. The seasoning blend is an absolute winner, and the texture of the meat was really nice. Have ordered again.

Tough, but Tasty

The spice blend was good, and gave the meat an authentic Middle-eastern flavor. The meat was a bit tough, but such is to be expected from camel, and while it smelled a bit funky on the grill, the spice blend used did a great job of removing any gaminess. My only complain would be that the chunks of meat were very small and somewhat thin, making it difficult to skewer. For one 150g bag, we were able to make 4 loaded skewers (no veggies, only meat)...that cooked quite quickly due to the thinness of the meat.

Interesting

These camel cubes have an interesting spice mix on them which almost gives a kebab style taste. I agree that this is somewhere between lamb and beef but.. it's still somehow more unique than that. After a good while on the barbecue, the inside seems to stay nicely red. Bottom line is: if you haven't had camel, give it a try.
