Brown Lentils in a 1 kg bag.
Lentils are easy because you don't have to soak them in advance, just add 1.5 times as much liquid by volume as what you have beans, bring to a boil, then let simmer for 10 or 15 minutes. Don't add salt until the end or they won't get as soft (unless you are a hard lentil lover, in which case, salt away!).
I think this is what Barbara Streisand was singing about.

Lentil & Semi-dried Tomato Salad Recipe
| Ingredients: |  |
| Lentils | 2 cups |
| Semi-dried Tomatoes (with oil) | 1 cup |
| Cucumber | 2 pc |
| Red Onion | 1/2 pc |
| Dressing: | |
| Olive Oil | 1/3 cup |
| Vinegar | 1/3 cup |
| Garlic | 1 clove (pressed) |
| Salt | 1/2 tsp |
| Fresh Ground Pepper | 1/2 tsp |
| Rinse
lentils. Bring 3 cups of water to a rolling boil and add lentils,
reduce heat and continue to boil for 10 – 15 minutes, until soft. Drain
and rinse, chill in the refrigerator. Chop Semi-dried Tomatoes, Cucumber and Red Onion into pieces about 5 mm square. Add vegetables to chilled lentils, mix Dressing ingredients and combine all together. |
